Galatasaray, like the other two İstanbul greats, dropped points after a lackluster 2-2 Super League draw at Vestel Manisa on Sunday evening with a penalty converted by Ümit Karan in the 32nd minute and a header goal by Hakan Şükür in the 66th. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
No one in the Galatasaray camp was happy with the Manisa result on Sunday, even though the Lions remained atop the standings based on total goals, however everyone associated with Galatasaray still had reason to celebrate because of Hakan’s goal, taking his tally in the Turkish league to 241, thereby breaking Tanju Çolak's Turkish top-flight record tally of 240 and making him Turkey’s top goal scorer of all time. In Galatasaray’s 2007-08 Super League opener in İstanbul last month, Hakan scored two goals in the Lions’ 4-0 rout of Çaykur Rize. The two goals meant that Hakan’s goal tally for Galatasaray increased to 219, surpassing Metin Oktay’s 217 to make Hakan the top scorer in the history of the club. Including all the goals of his entire professional career, the two goals also brought him equal with Tanju’s record of 240 goals. So the lanky Hakan needed only one goal to break Tanju’s record and he achieved this in the match against Vestel on Sunday. Below is Hakan’s record, tabulated by season, team, games played and goals:
